The history of the Palazzo Nervi-Scattolin project proposes an interesting point of observation of the city's transformation processes. The very occasion of the building's presentation, in 1975 when the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia was celebrated, may be considered a reminder of the link between the history of the institution's commitment to the community and the choice of its location: in the heart of the historic centre. The decision to transcend functional significance in order to contribute to an idea of the city projected towards the future implied participation in the heated cultural debate, between insertions of contemporary architecture into the city's historic fabric and executive modifications of projects aimed at preserving its original configuration.
