The Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia is housed within the Benedictine women's monastery of San Salvatore-Santa Giulia, founded in 753 A.D. by Duke Desiderius, later the last king of the Lombards (from 757), and his wife Ansa. Today, inside the monastery, seamless visitor routes run through the historical spaces of the monastery (Basilica of San Salvatore, Romanesque Oratory of Santa Maria in Solario, Nuns' Choir, cloisters) and the settlement phases that preceded its construction (Roman domus), and the museum sections, allowing a journey through the history of the city and also of Europe itself from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 18th century.
This guide presents the most significant places and works of art in Santa Giulia, allowing one to follow the history not only of the city but also of European culture through unique and admirably set artistic masterpieces.
